Since Red Laser allows manual entering of the UPC, why not enable it for use on iPod Touch?
how to scan without a camera?
As RedLaser is expanded, we'll hope to enable it for the iPod touch, but today we just didn't want to set the wrong expectations since scanning is a crucial part of RedLaser.
same here, I just bought the app for my iTouch because the screen shots showed that I could manually type in the UPC, and now it won't install.
Talk about wrong expectations! That screenshot is sending wrong expectations! It says, "Can't scan? Type it in!" well that's EXACTLY why I purchased it because I CANT scan. Please release it for the iTouch! or let me know how I can get my money back. Thanks!
Just bought the app for my iPod Touch and it says incompatible. Please make it compatible. Thanks.
I agree... I wouldn't hesitate to buy this for my touch if the manual UPC entering feature issue gets resolved. It may be less convenient without the camera as a scanner but can at least use it occasionally for more expensive buys, especially as the majority of large retailer offer price guaranteeing against competitors, I just don't want to have to stand there searching dozens of potential sites each time. U have a great app but sounds like it's poorely executed and as a result u r loosing out on some serious $$$! Please update this forum as soon as this gets sorted so u can take early retirement!
I should have read this discussion before purchasing the app as well. The description does in fact indicate that it is for the ipod touch and like many others, I would gladly enter the barcode manually but the downloaded app refused to sync the my ipod touch. Only a buck 99 but unless it's updated to work with the touch, it's wasted cash.......
Thanks everyone for these suggestions. We'll consider making it work on iPod touch, and we're especially hopeful that the next iPod touch is expanded to include a camera, in which case RedLaser will automatically work.
does it work yet?
If I may...
Just check [UIImagePickerController isSourceTypeAvailable:UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera] within your code and you'll know if your device has a camera or not, and then have your app react accordingly.
Tested it on an iPhone and an iPod Touch.
BTW, a documentation would be much appreciated, maybe with a faq covering this kind of situations.
Ok shopwise what was the result of the test? I am receiving my touch probably on friday so i cannot test it.
I have an IPAD will red lazer work
@serenity: Of course my snippet worked, that's what I meant by 'tested'.
I noticed today that Redlaser is among the top 100 free iDevice apps, so I figured I'd take a look to see if my iPod Touch was finally supported. Sadly, no. I'd think that releasing an iPod Touch-compatible version would go a long way towards customer satisfaction and increase the number of customers. ShopSavvy has been compatible from day 1, so I don't know why you refuse to keep up with the competition!!!
