SDK SupportAnyone got sample app running under base 4.0 SDK?

  • We built the RL sample app under base 4.0 SDK and it wouldn't scan. Has anyone else tried it?

  • same here.. can't get it to work with 4.0 SDK. It worked fine before..

  • I also find that scanning fails when building under the 4.0 base SDK. I had to build with 3.2, which is not what Apple recommends. I hope the Occipital people are reading this because it is an urgent issue for anyone using the SDK!

  • Hi all - this is Rob Veres from eBay, I'll be managing the RedLaser product/business for eBay. We are aware of some issues with the SDK and OS 4 as well as the iPhone 4. We believe that we've fixed the issues and will be rebuilding SDK binaries for all licensees, as well as posting a new free SDK version with the fix. We expect to have that done this week. Thanks for your patience as we execute the transition from Occipital to eBay.

  • Thanks Rob, that is very good to hear! We are just about ready to submit our app, but this 4.0 problem is a killer issue because new apps must be built with the iOS 4.0 Base SDK, and that flat-out doesn't work with the RedLaser SDK. It's great to hear that you are on the case and will have something this week! What is the process for getting a new "live" SDK that we can use in the release version of our app? What is the best way to contact you about this?

  • @czamara - If you (or anybody else) needs help with this, please email me. Just concatenate the first letter of my first name with my full last name and [at] ebay.com. We have a version of the SDK now that fixes the iOS 4/iPhone 4 issues, and we can get you set up with that. But if your needs aren't urgent (i.e. need a fix this week), I'd ask you to hold off for now - there are additional fixes that we're working on and would like to get those in before propagating the SDK update to all our licensees. (Otherwise folks would need to get yet another update once we released that version.) I appreciate everyone's patience as we get these issues fixed.

  • @robv Rob, it's been 11 days since your reply. And we are waiting for you to release the new SDK, so that we can publish our application to AppStore.

These are very urgent situations and please don't leave us here alone!

  • We are now building and deploying using Xcode 3.2.3 and iOS4.0. Scanning is working well. We bought a developer account and quickly received the receipt.

Looks like the new RL team is starting to come through. Good job guys.

  • Anthony - Is it working for you on the simulator?

    Rob - I sent you a note

    Thx! Mike

  • Rob,

I sent you a note on this one. I still get the errors posted in this even under the 20100708 version... is there another version we should be getting soon?

    Thanks, Paco

  • Today, I've got an e-mail from support team that the SDK is released for iOS4 (v2.8.0). http://www.redlaser.com/SDK.aspx

Now, I'm moving to Xcode 3.2.3 and gonna try this.

  • The SDK should be working fine with iOS4 - I've worked with a few of you on this thread already and hopefully you are up and running. Paco, if I haven't already gotten back to you I shall today.

    On the simulator question:

There was the separate simulator binary that allowed apps to run on the simulator. However, after discussions with Occipital, it looks like we will be discontinuing the simulator binary – since it really doesn’t do anything (because the sim doesn’t have a camera), it doesn’t make much sense for us to support it as a separate binary anymore. (We’ll probably eventually change how we generate binaries in general because it’s a very manual process at the moment.)

The very-short term solution for this is for you to ifdef out the scanning component when on the simulator – that should allow your app to otherwise run.

The short-term solution will be that we’ll include that ifdef in the next SDK release so you won’t have to do it yourself anymore.

The long-term solution will be that we’ll include a sample image/scan in the SDK so that the simulator can “pretend” to scan a barcode. (Or if Apple would let the simulator use a camera for scans, that would be great too.)

Hopefully you’re all able to make that change so you can test on the sim.
